Haiku 5-7-5 Management

My Feelings toward our Management class...

Very Entertaining
Never A Boring Moment
Sad That It Must End

I HATE To Blog !!!

I felt that the blog was irritating. This was the first time that I had ever blogged in my life. I did not like it. I don’t think that I really met anybody online. I felt as though it was just another assignment to me. I didn’t know who was who on the blog. In the beginning I did pay attention to the replies to my blog posting however after a while I felt as though everybody was writing the same thing to everybody else so, I felt as though I just had to get it done and over with. I understood what I had to do for the blogs and it did get me thinking of the class activities but, I still felt as though it was just an assignment. I did not enjoy it. I will not continue my blog after the class ends.

The Customers are Always Right !

There were four register open at the time that I was standing on line getting ready
to make my order. I was called to the first register and greeted politely by the staff. I told
her that I wanted a burger with exactly four pickles and I can see the change in her facial
expression already. She was ready to hit it on her register but stalled for a minute and
looked up at me and said that she doesn’t think that she can do that. I responded by asking her why I couldn’t ask for extra pickles on my burger. She asked me to wait for a minute so that she can ask the person on the next register on how to punch the order onto the register. He came over and asked me what I wanted. I told him that I wanted a burger with exactly four pickles and an order of small fries well done with no added salt. He immediately punched it into the register and told me that it was three dollars and one cent. It took the two staff about four to five minutes to actually take down my order. My burger was done in about a minute or two but my fries took more than eight minutes to make! I stood there and watched about three people receiving their orders before me even though they came after me.
While the first staff was taking my order she didn’t seem annoyed or aggravated, but more surprised. She stalled with the register for a while and then told me that she didn’t think that she was able to take the order. She was always smiling and didn’t give me an attitude at anytime during the time that I was making my order. The second staff just took my order. He didn’t seem like it annoyed him either but, he never smiled. He just asked me and punched it in the register and told me the total and went back to his register. While I was waiting for my order and had seen that my burger had came out the staff that had originally tried to take my order did tell me that my fries will take about two minutes to be finished. After I had received my order I had checked the burger and there were exactly four pickles in it and the fries were golden and there were no salt added.
I felt the first staff didn’t want to upset me when trying to tell me that she couldn’t take my order, but I think that she needed more training. She didn’t know how to accommodate me instantly when I told her how I wanted exactly four pickles. I felt as though her communication was okay. She smiled during the whole process and never made me feel uncomfortable or that she was annoyed in anyway. However, with her trying to deny my order in the beginning I felt as though it was not good customer service. The second staff was more organized; he knew what he was doing. Even though he didn’t make me feel like he was annoyed but, he should have greeted me with a smile. He communicated clearly and did not deny my order.
If I was brought in as a consultant for McDonald’s to help them improve their efficiency during special order the first and most important recommendation is to never deny a customers order. I felt that if she didn’t deny my order and just went directly to go get help then the customer services will be greatly improved. To deny a customer’s order is denying business and I think that was the worst thing that happened during my ordering process. I also think that the back should be more prepared for special orders, such as my fries. Many people do not like salt on their fries and they took a long time to make it.

I Will Lead You Through Dominance!

The test results from the DISC was correct on my type of leadership. My test result were D high C and I do not wish to change it. I believe that the test results are true on the majority of the time, however sometimes the situation can cause me to be another type of leader. I do think that it is very helpful to determine a person's management type to better understand their standings. This can give an employer an insight on how the person will react and treat their co-workers in certain situations. I believe that the test can also give another person a better understanding of a persons behaviors, actions and opinions. I would like to have a D high I type of leader with me if I was to be stranded. This type of leader can quickly take control of the situatution and come up with ideas of how to survive. When stranded a leader must be quick to gain control of all of his members, to put out his idea, and act quickly.

My Vision

Some of my goals in the upcoming years will be to get an intern, to pass the GMAT before fall 09, improve on my writing skills, and be able to save enough money to go back to Vietnam for winter break. To accomplish these goals I have started by attending attending the starr center, which helps me on my resume, I had also seeked for advice from my counselers. To prepare for the GMAT I had started take their online tests atleast once a week. I am also planning to have a study group for it as soon as finals are over. To improve my writing skills I have consulted my english professors and started to attend the writing center once every two weeks. To make enough money for my intended trip, I am planing to start to save after spring break and cut down my spending.

How Will You Decide??

During class when we were given a chance to decide how we were going to treat our first midterm and how we were going to make up our next midterm the class was in chaos. Everybody screaming out opinions and arguing with each other. It seemed like nothing was going to get done at first however, we as a class actually accomplish almost everything that we wanted to. At the beginning of class i felt as though a took a compete to win role, where i wanted to get what i wanted across. I raised my hands and made sure that Ted who took the role as a leader notice my raised hand immediately. I told him that I did NOT want no more multiple multiple choice on the next test. I got it easy and no one had disagreed with me so, I ended up taking on the role of avoidance afterwards, where I stayed quite and just let the others argue with one another. Then towards the end about 10minutes before class ended I believe that everybody took on the role of calibration. We ended up with not only making up the format of the next test but having the lowest out of the two grade drop, WITH the option of extra credit and a curve to the first test. I felt that the class as a whole was worked well at compromising about the decision making for this situation and was able to accomplish a lot.

An Eggs-cellent Way to Plan

I feel that my group had gone through all the planning steps. Before we started anything we had thought about what we were being asked to do. We started to talk about what we had to work with to achieve the main objective of having an egg drop from 10 feet in the air into a bucket without breaking. One person told us of their plan and we all worked from there. Each person added their own ideas to the project and stated what they believe would not have worked and why. After actually talking about how we were going to put it all together, a person from the group was in charge of drawing the actual egg and how it was to turn out at the end. The rest of the team was to choose either to handle the egg, run for the scissors, handle the tape or, to go up and drop the egg. before the time of planning was up all the team members knew what they were in charge of and what they had to do within the 10 minute time limit. When we received all of our materials the work started immediately and everyone knew their job and had the egg done within 8 minutes. We were not a hundred percent confident about how the egg turned out but, we had agreed that it turned out the way we had planned.

A Current Management Problem

A current management problem that I am dealing with now is how to get to work on time from school every Fridays for the rest of this semester. I take FIN 3000 from 8.15 till 11.10 in the morning every Friday. I have to catch an 11.45 train back to Long Island to get to work by one however, the professor likes to hold us back for an extra twenty to twenty-five minutes. I am always running to the subway to try to make it to the LIRR on time however, due to the late release I had missed my train last week and arrived to work half an hour late. I don't want to get up and leave class because I am afraid that he will state something important or something that will be on upcoming exams and, because the class only meets once a week it is very hard to get in contact with the professor on a daily basis. I can't afford to arrive to work either because a work on a client basis and being even fifteen minutes late will mess my work schedule for the rest of the day.
